Meet the Founders

Brian and Chandra We Love HTX_edited_edi

Brian and Chandra grew up in Portland, Oregon, where they met in high school. Something they loved to do together early in their relationship was help with a homeless outreach with their youth group. It didn’t take long to figure out that serving people would be a part of their story. As they graduated and went off to college, Brian attended the University of Oregon where he walked onto the football team and Chandra attended Corban University on a volleyball scholarship. Despite being at different schools an hour apart, they found time to continue to grow their relationship and got involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and build a community together. They got married, Chandra graduated, and Brian completed internships with the Eugene Homeless Mission and FCA where he was able to serve the community while getting his degree in Family and Human Services.

After Brian graduated, the two moved back to Portland where Chandra would attend Pacific University to receive her master’s degree in athletic training. While Chandra was in school, Brian decided to use his experience on the field and start coaching, where he found a purpose in working with students. All through this, Brian and Chandra continued to talk about their future and what that would look like after Chandra graduated. They often thought of moving out of the Pacific Northwest and going somewhere new for a couple years but had no idea that that was going to become a reality very soon.

That passion for students and those conversations about living somewhere new for a couple years soon turned into applying for the Teach for America (TFA) program and becoming a teacher. With the application came the commitment to move wherever TFA sent them. They made the decision that they would go wherever because, after all, it was just a 2-year commitment, then they’d move back home to Portland. 7 years, 2 children, and roots growing deeper each year that they’re in Texas, Chandra has worked as an athletic trainer, a teacher, and coach in the school setting, and is now an athletic trainer in a clinical setting. Brian has worked as an elementary math teacher, a middle school science teacher, and a coach. They have fallen in love with the culture, diversity, and love that Houston has offered and are still living here today.

After 7 years in the classroom, Brian started to feel called to something outside of the classroom. With a passion for family and wanting to serve the city and community that have given him and his family a home for good, he decided it was time to give that love back. We Love HTX Inc. was founded in January 2023 and quickly became Brian's full time job with Chandra joining him part time in the summer of 2024.
